A Desert's Holiday.. Christmas in Phoenix 2021

Updated: Apr 21, 2023

I'm always up for escaping a Midwestern winter! So, read below about how I spent Christmas 2021 with my first visit to Phoenix, AZ.

Commute

We took a flight out of MidAmerica St. Louis Airport to Phoenix. The arrival city there is Mesa, AZ - about 26 minutes away from Downtown Phoenix. But because of the heavy rain that met us, 26 min turned into 45 minutes. Either way, the ride was straightforward, and the scenery was beautiful.

Editor Note: Hopefully MidAmerica will add more destinations to their roster. This airport is smaller and a lot less chaotic than Lambert (It reminds me of the Savannah, GA Airport from our Hilton Head trip).

While riding through the desert, you couldn't tell me I wasn't Whitney Houston's character Savannah from Waiting to Exhale, LOL!

Stay

FOUND: RE Phoenix is an art boutique hotel positioned in its downtown Roosevelt Row. There's art everywhere: the lobby, hallways, and every room. Museums are one of my favorite pastimes, so I was thoroughly pleased with being surrounded by so much creativity.

We occupied a King-sized room with a view of the mountains. The room layout is all modern-industrial! I believe with any room in the hotel you won't be disappointed. Whenever we revisit Phoenix, I want to stay at the FOUND: RE again.

The Roosevelt Row-Arts District neighborhood is stunning and very walkable.

Activities

We spent Christmas Day at the Suns vs. Warriors game. The game was high energy, but the locals made for the best experience. Suns fans support their team, and it shows!

Footprint Center is a multi-purpose arena and recently received a second round of upgrades. Very sleek!

Food

Note: MATCH is connected to the FOUND:RE.

For The Gram

Located in Scottsdale, AZ, The Canal Club is a 1930s Havana-inspired restaurant inside the Scott Resort and Spa. The grounds are a little piece of Heaven in the middle of the desert. Every corner is a brunch backdrop. Go get them pictures, Friends!

Pro Tip: If you're staying in Downtown Phoenix, The Canal Club is less than a 30-minute drive.
