From her 1983 published work, 𝐈𝐧 𝐒𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡 𝗼𝐟 𝐎𝐮𝐫 𝐌𝗼𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫'𝐬 𝐆𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐬: 𝐖𝗼𝗺𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐬𝐡 𝐏𝐫𝗼𝐬𝐞, #𝖠𝗅𝗂𝖼𝖾𝖶𝖺𝗅𝗄𝖾𝗋 defines *ᴡᴏᴍᴀɴɪsᴛ* as a black feminist 𝗈𝗋 feminist of color - further 𝖽eriving from the interchangeable BLK expressions: "𝖸ou acting womanish." "You 𝗍𝗋𝗒𝗂𝗇𝗀 to be grown."
In addition, she explained (ᴡᴏᴍᴀɴɪsᴛ): "a woman who loves other women, sexually and/or nonsexual. Appreciates and prefers women's culture, women's emotional flexibility and women's strength. [...] Loves music. Loves struggle. 𝖫𝗈𝗏𝖾𝗌 𝗁𝖾𝗋𝗌𝖾𝗅𝖿. 𝐑𝐞𝐠𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐥𝐞𝐬𝐬."
